What To Expect

Day 1: Beijing → Lhasa (By Train)

 

 

·       Board the Z21 express train at Beijing West Railway Station (departure at 19:22) for Lhasa, covering a distance of 3757 kilometers (approximately 40 hours and 20 minutes).

·       Meals: None

·       Accommodation: On the train

 

Day 2: En Route to Lhasa

 

 

·       Spend the day on the train, passing through Taiyuan, Lanzhou, and Xining. Enjoy the northwest scenery through the train windows.

·       When the train stops at Xining Railway Station (about 20 minutes), you can get off to stretch and adjust (Xining's altitude is 2300 meters).

·       Meals: None

·       Accommodation: On the train

 

Day 3: Arrive in Lhasa

·       The train arrives in Lhasa around 11:42. A staff member will greet you with a traditional Tibetan hada at Lhasa Railway Station and transfer you to the hotel.

·       Spend the afternoon resting to adapt to the plateau environment (Lhasa's altitude is approximately 3650 meters).

·       Important Tips:

o       Do not take a shower on the first night to avoid altitude sickness.

o       Drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and overeating.

·       Meals: None

·       Accommodation: Lhasa (3-diamond hotel with oxygen-equipped room for the first night)

 

Day 4: Lhasa City Tour

·       Morning: Visit the Potala Palace (about 1 hour), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former winter residence of the Dalai Lamas.

·       Late Morning: Explore Jokhang Temple Square to experience the devout atmosphere of Tibetan pilgrims.

·       Afternoon: Visit the Qing Dynasty Resident Minister's Office and stroll through Barkhor Street, a traditional Tibetan bazaar.

Day 5: Lhasa → Nyingchi

Day 6: Nyingchi → Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon

·       Mid-Morning: Take a scenic drive through Yani Wetland, where the Yarlung Zangbo River and Nyang River meet.

Day 7: Nyingchi → Shannan
